Firstly, I gotta point out that you are a human being - the writer of this book, this chapter & particularly these verses are intended to remind you that though you are a child of the living God; you are also an emotional person ( now just because I may not cry as often as I use to / nowadays my head (may or may not) become a lot harder than when I'd listen to my mum obediently as a child because I earn a little money lool) - anyway, let's get into this beautiful scripture.
Philippians 4:6-8 New International Version (NIV)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
So in verse 6 - the 'be careful of nothing ... let your requests be made known unto God'. This is a command of direction. It doesn't state that you shouldn't worry about some things and give to God (Hunny the worry's of life is not pick'n'mix ), but not a single thing. It also states that you make your request to God, not your friend, your maker. There have been countless times where you've incurred an amount of 'worry', whether it be the hairstylist not showing up, or a clothing delivery coming late - you better give it to God! Give it to God through prayer (without ceasing). You understand that prayer is communication aka. talking with God aka surrendering your fears to God - (for example) “Lord I give you this problem to deal with because you are bigger than this problem”. As I giving my worries to God to deal with; I reiterate that fear also has to submit to my God, my father and that leaves me to meditate on the things of God (which are always good and beneficial for myself). verse 7 - the peace of God ... whewww has something ever gone wrong and you were not shakened? Does it not feel like the sweetest ice-cold drink on a sunny day? Praise Him! That wasn't because you didn't care, you just knew that whatever the outcome was, life will still go on. This verse reminds me so much of when I was younger and I would present a problem to my Nan in haste to fix it and she would remind me of the word Selah, rest (AND DWELL) in the peace of God, that is the best kind of wisdom (apart from the book of proverbs) I hold dear to my heart. verse 8 - the result of incorporating: a) not worry about a single worry of the world we live in (because it was troubled even before our grandmothers found Christ) b) continue to be in communication (prayer) with your maker concerning the things that impact you rather than your desires (because the Lord's desire for my life will cause me to have an impact in my surroundings) c) peace is within you child of God! Jesus is the Prince of peace and submission to Him has great benefits (in Philippian's case - great understanding) shall result to, refocus on the things of God rather than the things of this world. That doesn't mean I am oblivion to - it just reduces the pain of stressing out at the very least.
